Hornady case trimmer problems solved!!
I just wanted to let people know about some outstanding custumer service I just recieved from Hornady...I had purchased a Hornaduy micromiter adjust case trimmer,(mostly because it said it used standard shell holders) well the standard 5.7x28 shell holder doesn't fit it the center hole is about .0040 to small to fit the shaft of the trimmer, I contacted Hornady and spoke with Ben in the custom shop and he siad they could make me on that would fit but could only be used for the trimmer. It would not be usable for loading becuase it would not support the case prppperly. He explained further that the cost for making a new custome shell holder was normally $40.00 buthe would speek to the boss and let me know. Well knowing what custom one piece machine shop Hourly rate was In the area I felt it would be a deal........... Today I recieved a padded envelope in the mail within it was a Modified shell holder for 5.7x28 and a bill stating No charge.......I just wamted to give Hornady a big ATTABOY... :thumb:

They did the same thing for me about 6 months ago. I have been EXTREMELY pleased with Hornady's customer service. :thumb:
Re: Hornady case trimmer problems solved!!
Went through a similar process with a Hornady shell holder and trimmer.
I am a machinist, so I modified the holder myself - but then ran into the problems of it not supporting the case head well enough for resizing.
I just bought a second holder, so I have one for trimming and one for everything else. Seems to work fine for me.

:thumb: Good report. Hornady has always been tops on most everything for me. Thanks for the information.

:furious: Get them while they are hot and new! Just got off the phone with Lonny at Hornady and they are making up a batch of 5.7x28 shellholders for their trimmer. The cost will be $8.17 ea, [the normal Hornady #37, {5.7x28} shellholder is $5 he said]. Hornady will be adding this modified 5.7x28 shellholder to their catalog. It will be listed as #37T for shellholder #37, with the "T" designating them for trimming.
Lonny said they will be made and heat-treated in a few weeks and they will ship mine out then. I know it is not free, but it doesn't break the bank. The fact that he mentioned the heat-treating makes me think this part should be on par with their other good products.
Thank you guys for your help on this. Otherwise I would take a try at doing the modification my self. Even if I correctly enlarged the hole fourty thousandths, it would still need heat treatment that I can't do.

Re-heat treating it for after that operation would be pointless.

Re: Hornady case trimmer problems solved!!
I have a question which is really hard for me at least to find the answer to, do you need the same shell holder for the press you are using to reload with or, can you use one shell holder in all presses (a for instance I have a #45 rcbs shell holder can I use that in a lee press or do I have to have a lee shell holder for the reloading process)??? Sincerely, Carsfor
Re: Hornady case trimmer problems solved!!
Unless you run across some specialized holder for a specific device or an antique - all the modern shell holders are the same.
Yes, you can use LEE with RCBS with Hornady with Lyman presses.

On a SINGLE stage press you are correct, but to avoid any confusion Progressive presses are shell plate specific.
