"Miami police shoot, kill naked man who was 'eating' face of another man

One man was shot to death by Miami police, and another man is fighting for his life after he was attacked and his face allegedly half eaten, by a naked man on the MacArthur Causeway off ramp, police said.

The bloodshed began about 2 p.m. when a series of gunshots were heard on the ramp, which is along NE 13th Street, just south of The Miami Herald building. Witnesses said a woman saw the two men fighting and flagged down a police officer who was in the area.

The officer, who has not been identified, approached and saw that the naked man was actually chewing the other man’s head, according to witnesses. The officer ordered the naked man to back away, and when he continued the assault, the officer shot him. The attacker continued to eat the man, despite being shot, forcing the officer to continue firing. Witnesses said they heard at least a half dozen shots.

Miami police were on the scene, which was just south of The Miami Herald building on Biscayne Boulevard. The naked man who was killed lay face down on the pedestrian walkway just below the newspaper’s two-story parking garage. Police requested The Herald’s video surveillance tapes.

The other man was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, according to police. Their identities were not released.

The incident, which came as crowds descended upon South Beach for the annual Urban Beach Week hip-hop festival, snarled traffic on the causeway for several hours.

In a text message, Javier Ortiz, spokesman for Miami police’s Fraternal Order of Police, said the officer who fired the fatal shots was “a hero.”

“Based on the information provided, our Miami police officer is a hero and saved a life,’’ he said.

Sergeant Altarr Williams, supervisor of Miami police’s Homicide Unit, said a man doesn’t have to be armed to be dangerous.

“There are other ways to injure people,’’ Williams said. “Some people know martial arts, others are very strong and can kill you with their hands.’’

Hey, Jacksonville is just fine - I have never seen cannibalism here. Stay away from Miami though...

It's not cannibalism, it's zombie-ism! I hope they have armed guards standing by for when the "victim" turns.

Sorry, Greenberg! After thirty years in the Tampa area, maybe we can agree on everything SE of Ocala. Most of Miami is probably zombie-free (except for the expected and usual roving bands of nutters) but stay away from Belle Glade.

Problem isn't Floridians, its the rejects from other states that choose the sunshine and warm weather.

Agreed, toyslr. There are great folks in Florida but it hasn't changed for the better during the last thirty years. End of rant. Bring on the zombies!

Hmm, and I thought Florida was interesting because of all the hot, young, female teachers that molest their students.

This zombie-face-eating story has brought the state to a whole new level on the TMZ/Jerry Springer scale...

I saw the article on AOL. It diffently has forethought. He didn't want to get his clothes messy with the blood. Did the police use silver bullets? Did they put a wood stake through his heart afterwards

Silver bullets are for werewolves, stakes are for vamps. Zom's just need something thru the brain-pan, doesn't even have to be a bullet. :skep:

All of EA's ammo is effective against zombies.

Facebook is the vector by which zombie infections spread.

Wow, looks like this guy used weed instead of bath salts.I don't smoke pot or but do thrink beer . Alcohol is FAR more likely to cause a person to behave violently, FAR more addictive, and overall FAR more dangerous to society. All this story does is refute the initial assumption that he was on bath salts. The fact that he tested positive for marijuana doesn't say anything about marijuana being the cause of this. Weed stay in your system for weeks, there's no way to even say he was under the influence at the time. There's even less to say that it caused him to behave violently. We may as well blame the holocaust on Hitler being a vegetarian.

While neither marijuana nor alcohol are dangerous in normal amounts (1 serving of alcohol... I don't know what 1 serving of pot would consist of), BOTH used in excess amounts over a long period of time can be and/or ARE dangerous. Marijuana use has been linked to psychotic symptoms.
http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/news ... c-symptoms" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There are many medications over the years that have been deemed safe for years, and we're just now learning that in fact, they are not. My wife is in pharmacy school and is doing rotations at pain clinics. A recent visit to a well known person who is very influential in long term treatment of pain had her world recently turned upside down, because everything that she's been doing for almost 20 years has turned out to be completely wrong. For years people have signed "pain contracts" with their doctors basically saying that access to opiates for treating pain is a right. While opiates for short term use are safe and the best treatment for pain, the long term use will destroy you both physically and mentally. It is documented that people who have been using opiates over the long term are experiencing their brain shrinking, endocrine system is having major problems, and they become addicted. And by addicted, I'm not saying a simple addiction and craving... these people are actively seeking a fix and doing ANYTHING to get a fix including committing violent crimes.

What I'm trying to say is, people may think that marijuana is safe today... in 5, 10, 20 years, we may find out that it is as dangerous over the long term as meth is over the short term. Official studies cannot be conducted in the US because marijuana is illegal here and there probably haven't been many extensive studies in other countries... maybe there have been, I haven't looked.

While I'm not saying that marijuana was the cause of this attack, it may have played a much bigger role than you think. I also believe marijuana should be legal, though I would never use it. I just think that until extensive and long term studies are done, we shouldn't rule out marijuana as a contributing factor.

On a side note... maybe he just finished smoking a bowl, got the munchies, and on the way to TacoBell had a psychotic event. :)
