Awful trigger!

Post by JoJo » 23 Apr 2013, 13:00

I went out with my VERY expensive LMT AR15 today to sight in a scope. Even with my limited experience I know the trigger stinks. It creeps and even seems to groan. The trigger pull must be sixty pounds.
I need suggestions on a replacement. What is the best brand? Drop in? Gunsmith installed? Trigger pull for self defense?
A friend said his gunsmith could polish what I have for $80.00. I also read about a drop in trigger set by Timney for $200.00. Seems strange that just a trigger would cost 10% of the total cost of the gun!

My friend hated his LMT trigger as well. Went with the Timney drop in, and likes it, but still not the greatest.

Williams Trigger Specialties did the trigger on my PTR91 & it was well worth it.

They have "AR15 & type rifles" listed on their website - Set trigger is $200 but the standard trigger is only $65. Both are an improvement on factory triggers.

Go try all the triggers and see what you like.

You didn't define a context of your application; if you're asking for a response, you should help us help you.

If $200 is your price range, you can pretty much get almost any great match trigger out there.

Go look at CMC. People will tell you Geissele, just because it's the fanboy fad. G triggers are fine.

Most of them from reputable sources work well, including RRA 2 stage match triggers and G triggers. CMC.

Actually, go buy an ALG trigger. It's $50 and very good.

I put Geissele triggers in all of my ARs. I really like the quality and feel. I am also a fan of two stage triggers, which these are. I think their SSA is a great trigger, but it runs about $200. The SSA-E is the same, but with a lighter trigger pull. I prefer the SSA. They are not difficult to put in. I can install one in about 10 minutes myself.

I have a Bill Springfield, Geissele SD-3G, and JP trigger. IMO, the JP is the best bang for the buck trigger out there. The Geissele is an awesome trigger with an instant reset, but comes with a big price tag. The Springfield will need replaced after heavy use. The JP is adjustable for pre/over travel and has a very nice pull weight.
I have also tried the Geissele SSA-E and Hi-Speed DMR. I sold them both because I prefer a single stage trigger.

Can't beat GA triggers for ARs. Just can't.

Another vote for GA.

I'm a fan of their SD series.

I've shot triggers that I like better than G Triggers.

As far as reliability in adverse conditions and wear and tear, there are a lot of considerations.

I have shot with a lot of different triggers, and as far as utility, durability and price, GA can't be beat in my opinion when it comes to ARs. THere are those that are more expensive, and crisper, just not as durable. And their are those that are 70% what a GA is for half the price. I do like that new timney trigger for the price though. Just wouldn't own one. ALG, never found one that wasn't worth what I paid for. Problem is they are worth about $50.

Personal preference, but to say GA is a fanboy thing just isn't correct. They are the best AR triggers. Just as Jewell are the best custom, Rem700, and Mod 70 variant bolt gun triggers out there.
