question about 5-7 conceal carry in different states

Hay guys

I was just wondering, and aside from calling the New Jersey State Police I figured I'd ask you guys first.

Are Five-Seven's allowed (with their ammo) to be carried "off-duty" in NJ? I know hollowpoints are not allowed in the state and they are pretty strict on that...

thanks for any info!

You can't own hollowpoints in the state of NJ?

You can own then, but apparently you cannot have them anywhere but your place of dwelling.

...because you wouldnt want your guns to cause excess damage. NO, that would be WAY out of line! I mean, if youre going to shoot someone....you should give them every chance to survive, you know? Its just the right thing to do.

Another reason I probably won't be visiting NJ anytime soon.

Novesh, are you a LEO? You said "Off-duty" so I am assuming so. Thanks to H.R. 218, "The Law Enforcement Officer's Safety Act," we can carry concealed any weapon we want in all 50 states, hollowpoint or not. Obviously check with department policy regarding what you can carry.

If you are not LEO than I could only assume a projectile like the 5.7 would not be very welcome in NJ.

NV on the other hand absolutely loves it! :p

NJ is a strange state...

I met a policeman a few years ago that told me even though they might have duty 13 round mags, they can't have more than 10 rounds in them.

I could only express that I hoped his backups would get 'there' in time.

Hell of a First post I guess.

State, the guy you met was either A: a Liar, or B: a Moron. Duty Firearms are Exempt from the Restrictions due to the NJ AWB which is also what regulates magazine capacity.

Hollowpoints are a strange gray area. They are legal to Purchase, they are legal to possess in your home, they are legal to shoot at the range, they are NOT legal however to carry, that said, the ONLY time i've ever seen anyone charged with possessing them is if they were being carried during the commission of a crime.

Yes LEOSA (AKA HR-218) does allow you to carry it is NOT so clear on the other hand when it comes to state-level restrictions such as NJ's holowpoing or magazine capacity. The advice i've always given to visiting Bretheren is to load up with Federal's Expanding FMJ (I carry it lyself in my off-duty 1911 due to some erroneous info when LEOSA first came out concerning NY's restrictions, and just found I liked it) which has become the defacto "Retired Guy Bullet" since retirees in NJ with their carry permits can't stoke up with HP either. As for 5.7 in general There's no issue that i know of when it comes to calibre.

Realize that NO COP i know of would beef an out of state guy for a 20 round mag in their FN nor is he going to ask to see your ammo. The Problem exists if you DO need to use it. I can see some of our Hugely Anti-gun/Anti-carry County Prosecutors using you as the poster child. Just so you understand what I mean, One county Prosecutor. once LEOSA passed issued a directive that NO County level LEO could carry a firearm outside of the state of NJ or face disciplinary action resulting in termination. They also issued an order to the chiefs requireing them to add language to their Rules and Regs stating that they could not carry any firearm out of state that they qualified with at their department. MOST of the chiefs have just ignored this, but i know SO's, CO's and Prosecutor's Detectives who are royally PISSED about this ruling.

I'm on the fence about gerring both a Five SevN and PS-90 this year. part of the problem is I cant carry the Five off-duty we have a .38 cal minimum for Off-duty guns.

Anyway any questions about NJ laws feel free to ask.

One other thing to remember NJ has NO RKBA in it's state constitution, not ever, and technically the way 2C:39 (Firearms section of the criminal Code) is written, ALL Weapons are prohibited, it's just that certain ones are allowed under certain circumstances. Ass-backwards, I know..but that's NJ for you.

I'm sorry, but that is the stupidest thing I've read in a long, long time.

Federal's EFMJ (expanding full metal jacket)

Check it out, problem solved.
I think Federal SPECIFICALLY, made this ammo for markets like NJ.

I love how the market adapts to circumvent ignorance.

I am also sure that this probably feeds better.

As for the 5.7, the bluetips aren't aren't classifed as hollowpoints.
