yea...there isnt a whole lot out there. Ive been researching reloading on the internet since our forum went down, and there is hardly anything of value. Most of the time I was just getting links to the fivesevenforum off of google or from the other forums themselves! *i also learned something new during all of this bedlam. I had no idea our forum's name was forbidden to be spoken on certain forums! How hillarious is that? They must be really insecure (and/or jealous)...

The other thing I learned while browsing other forums was that the people over here are of a much higher caliber. There are no asshats on our forum. For the most part, the people on this forum are very knowledgable, friendly, curtious, and have a good sense of humor...traits u seldom see elsewhere.

I guess you dont really notice these things until they are gone.

This forum will return to shine brighter because it is made up of great people, with patience and perseverance. In fact, I bet it will be better than before, organized, intuitive, thoughtful, humorous, polite and fair. :monkey:
Here’s a couple of my favorite Reagan quotes; 1) When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat. 2) The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so.

Agreed.

About 15 years ago a colleague of mine was describing another coleague of mine's wealth of knowledge to a newcomer to our profession. He summed it up as "Joe [not his real name] probably forgot more about [topic] this morning while he was taking a dump than you know. Try asking him nicely."

Is there a way to have google fix their results? Even before all this when you search for fivesevenforum, the .com came up top, and when searching fivesevenforum.net you get crap about "fives even forum" lol.

Soon we will be confused with Heinz :monkey:

O and  at getting the :monkey: back.

Yeah, I agree with this. This is a very friendly site. A lot of mutual respect going on here. When people disagree, people (almost always) disagree in a civil manner. Looking at ideas from opposing view points (in a civil manner) is extremely useful because it's the best way to get at the heart of a matter.

I was just thinking about the long thread re Fuzzy's KB that I spend about two hours reading one night. It was an incredibly valuable thread. Those are the kinds of threads that appear to be lost forever. I'm sure there are hundreds of threads like that and, unless someone takes the time to recreate (at least the essence of) those threads, that information will likely be gone. The problem is that no one person could adequately recreate even one of those threads...there was so much back-n-forth and discussion of multiple viewpoints that it would darn near impossible to synthesize the information from one of those threads in such a way as to fully reflect the knowledge.

It's a shame. :?:

I can pull the first post from the google cache, but everyone beyond that, not sure if we'll ever get it back.

Having lost all past posts greatly diminishes the value of this site. I won't say this site is completely and utterly worthless now (at least it's a common place for FiveseveN owners to "meet" and discuss new issues), but I will definitely look elsewhere for FiveseveN information.
Im going to have to say that we have made great progress in the couple days we have been back. I would be willing to bet that this forum currently contains as much or more information on all aspects of the 5.7x28 round and systems than any other forum. If you were to spend your time elsewhere, I doubt u would learn much u couldnt get here (and if you did you would have to spend a lot of time searching through threads....whereas here we have neatly organized/reconstructed the most pertinent information into easy to find threads.)

Only somewhat, the last archive they have is from Feb 06, 2008. A LOT of new information has been posted since then. But this definitely help bringing back older discussions.

Thanks!

My sense on loss of value...

I purchased a five seven and a ps90 at a gunshow about a month after I got home from a deployment. I had nothing but money burning a hole in my pocket and had NO IDEA what I had actually purchased (I know, I know...). All I knew was that they looked cool, I didn't have anything like them, and I wanted them.

I got home and one of the first places I found was the old forum. I learned more about what I had just bought in ten minutes than I could have by looking at the FN website all day. I registered, posted, and within about ten minutes got blasted for not using the search function properly.

But it didn't matter, because there were enough people who were there who took time to ANSWER me and were very helpful. This is the first and only forum in which I have participated for that very reason. And even though the extensive history of posts isn't here at the moment, I have no doubt that if I were in that same position and asked the same questions, they would be answered by friendly fellow firearms enthusiasts quickly.

There is no loss of value. The members are here. I have absolutely NO DOUBT that within months this forum will have a searchable knowledge base based upon new posts that will easily eclipse any other FN product oriented forum. And before that happens, anyone will be able to inquire and their questions will be answered. In a way, it may be a blessing in disguise -- all of the countless threads consisting of "use the search function, jackass" and flames from certain banned members won't be here.

For those reasons I will continue to be a paid member. My hat's off to the admins for keeping this thing rolling.

Wolly-
That's exactly why the decision was made to go straight in to a brand new forum rather than try to raise the old one from the ashes.
And most of the thanks goes to Fuzzy for his tireless efforts in getting this new home built for us. And to Justin for doing what needed to be done...I dunno if either of them slept until the doors were opened.
It may be new, but with the core members here, and new ones joining daily, and old ones straggling in with them, the new forum will overshadow the old one and before we know it, the old vBulletin forum will be a distant memory.
But just as before, it's the members that really make it what it is. A home.

Okay...enough of the mushy stuff. Back to work. :guns:
