AWC suppressor update

Post by p99guy » 18 Dec 2010, 22:00

I was talking to the folks at AWC the other
Day about my 5.56 Optima suppressor from
The late 1990's( state of the art in compact
5.56 suppressors at the time) and it turns
Out they can remanufacture it to
Current AWC Raider spec for 495.00
- a current .mil suppressor that is ear safe
Inside a room! Dont have to get a new stamp
Or anything..... Only downside is it will be approx 8 week
Turnaround. Oh well quicker I get it sent
:)

Nice. Ear safe in a room assuming you are using subsonics, correct?

No, service ammo.... The sonic crack, without
Muzzle blast isnt a big ear killer. The raider is made
For the military for gun fighting in buildings/hoises/airplane hangers
And to be earsafe while doing it. Of course
That does nothing for the unpleasent fellow
Busting caps all over the place with a kalashnikov
While you are in his mud hut....but hey, you can only do so much.

Sounds like a good deal on a sweet setup.

The trick is to use the AWC to eliminate the unpleasant fellow with a Kalashnikov before he has a chance to bust caps

Please remember that it will only apply to a 16" barrel. The sound goes up a huge amount as your barrel length shortens. But yes it will be hearing safe on the level with a 22 lr.

lol thats better than it is now as a AWC optima from the late 1990's...its not what I would call completely earsafe in an open pasture, and shooting beside my stepson with his 7.62x51 Fulton Armory Titan/ YHM .30 suppressor tells the tale.

You might consider giving a Dave at Liberty a call. They actually build quiet cans and usually re-core for better prices.

You can check out NFATALK.org for mil-std metering results with a bunch of cans.

We even shot your old E German AK74 with a Red Jacket can last summer :thumb:

It was a .30 can with 5.45 ammo so suppression wasn't the best ever,,, but considering how loud that caliber is, I liked it with the can MUCH better.

Anyway, Hope your doing well, and your old rifle has adjusted to her new home well. :D

She is sorta like Sophia Loren,,, born sexy and getting better with age. :D

Shoots like a dream and I have actually made some converts after letting others shoot it.

Will you please remind me who built it?

Sledgehammer, that's it. :ponder: I had been struggling with that for awhile.

I've been thinking about putting a commie block side mount red dot on her for a bit, not sure what to buy as of yet. Some cost more than they are worth, and some are just plain crap.

I wish I could actually hold a few and check them out before I commit.

I have one of those slide mount scope rails that came with my AK-74. It and the cheapo tasco red dot that came on it held zero better than expected being removed and reinstalled repeatedly. I don't know how well new ones work, but the one I have is as old as the gun and works perfectly.

I have an awc raider and that is about 6 years old.
I also have another brand of 5.56 can and the other brand is markedly more quiet than the awc.
Talked to awc and they said they could update the core and make it quiet by today's standards.
Well, hundreds of dollars later the awc is still not as quiet as my other brand.
I will not spend another nickle on an awc product.
Save a little more money and buy a product that will fit your needs and is current technology.

On another note, their sound reduction claims in advertising are frankly bogus.
Remember, they also claim they can take away the sonic crack with the thundertrap.
Unless they can break the laws of physics they are liars.
