Hornady dies stripping lacquer

Post by caseylain99 » 11 Oct 2024, 18:23

My new Hornady Custom Grade New Dimension sizer die is stripping the lacquer. Here is what it looks like: https://imgur.com/a/yclukKR

Nothing I've tried so far works. Using Lee case lube. I've used a little, a lot, none, tried oil, tried grease. Cleaned the dies, tried again. Polished the dies, tried again. Still doing the exact same thing. Kind of frustrated. Any advice?

Also is that amount of lacquer damage 'acceptable' or should I start looking into recoating?

Well did some more googling and read that someone put a bevel on their die and it stopped scraping lacquer. Mine already had a bevel, so I turned the bevel into more of a smooth slope using what I had laying around. Took some trial and error but I got it to stop scraping lacquer and the sized cases still chamber in my gun. Yay, first challenge overcome....at the cost of most of my fired brass...oh well

Just saw this, I was out of town. Normally running some Mothers Mag polish on cleaning patches on a 9mm bore brush will clean it up.
