Winchester WST powder?

Post by BRZ » 01 Apr 2021, 11:51

I can’t get any True Blue powder where I am but can get the WST. I noticed on the burn rate chart they are right next to one another. I wanted to load up some 30 grain varmint grenades that I have sitting around. Would the WST work? Anyone have any experience with using it? Thanks in advance.

Not sure now. The original chart I was going by was from the hogdgon website and now I found another that states what you just said.

This chart puts them right next to each other?

You are running into a common issue.

I have yet to have ANY burn rate chart agree with each other.

Thinking about longshot now instead of WST. Why would the burn rate charts be so different? There is a huge difference in WST on the charts.

Well there is no industry standard for testing and also they change. Powders still have an organic component that varies. No matter how hard they try powder makers can only adjust for this so much. This is why when ever we get a new shipment of powder if it's a new lot number it gets ran through my pressure barrel and production laod recipies adjusted accordingly.

Thanks. I’m going to try the longshot. Saw a couple people have used this with the 30 grain VG with success. I’m going to start off on the low end and work my way up. Any advice for the longshot and the 30 grain VG?

BRZ - I worked up some of these 30’s for my Diamondback DBX and my best loads were 6.0gr of Longshot, 6.4gr True Blue, and 5.9gr of Win Auto Comp.
