Subsonic Data Clipped from the old site.

Post by abatis » 26 Aug 2008, 06:53

I was collecting reloading data from the old site and saved it in a Word file. The following information was generated by others and I claim no responsibility for any of it. I will add that at one time MO indicated 4.2 grs of True Blue was a good start for subsonics with the 55grain FMJ. Anyway, I hope it helps and thanks to the original author(s).
Old site info"

Subsonic loads
________________________________________
The following loads used Winchester small rifle primers and Ramshot True Blue Powder. They used once fired brass full length resized in the Hornady die set. The load information is provided for information only and not as a recommendation for your loads. I am not liable for loads you make using this information as individual load practices vary. The loads were tested at 50 yards and uniformly impacted approximately 4 " lower than SS 197 cartridges at the same range. The first information used the PS-90.

Bullet --------------------Powder wt --- COL ---------- Velocity -------- Group size
55 gr Nosler Bal Tip ---- 3.1 gr -------1.589 ----------1144 --------------1"
55 gr Speer 1049-------- 3.1 gr -------1580---------- 1002 -------------- 7/8 "
55 gr Sierra 1360-------- 3.1 gr -------1.590----------1072 --------------1 1/2"
55 gr FMJ BT --------------3.1 gr------- 1.589 ----------1129 --------------1"
52 gr Horn 2249 ---------3.1 gr -------1.589 ----------1118 --------------1 1/2"
53 gr Horn Mat HP-------3.1 gr -------1.588 ----------1139 --------------1/2"
53 gr Sierra 1400C ------3.1 gr -------1.590 ----------1141 -------------- 7/8"

Five Seven Pistol
55 gr FMJ BT 3.1 gr 1.590 1050

Groups for the PS-90 were of 5 shots each. It was interesting that the info shown for the pistol was less than 100 fps slower than the same load in the PS-90. Conditions for all shots - weather was dry and sunny with a temp in the mid 90's. light breeze.

New info on 55 grain bullets and True Blue powder.

Sierra Gameking 55 grain bullets
CCI 400 small rifle primers
C.O.L. 1.590"

4.4 gr 1290 Avg 14.5 St. De.
4.6 gr 1328 Avg 34.8 St. De.
5.0 gr 1429 Avg 22.9 St. De.
5.2 gr 1457 Avg 25.4 St. De.

All rounds cycled with no problem. The 5.2 grain rounds were a little stout but showed no signs of over pressure."
