$200K worth of weapons stolen from gun dealer's pickup

The Inquirer says someone stole $200,000 worth of weapons from a gun dealer's pickup truck last night in King of Prussia, Pa.

The victim told police he stopped for dinner while driving home from a gun show, according the paper's news blog.

"A list of the stolen firearms is being compiled and so far it is believed that twenty four various rifles, including machine guns and sniper rifles, are missing," the local NBC station reports.

Something doesn't sound right.

It had to be someone following him, or an inside job.

I know some crooks just get lucky. Sneak a peak at the back of a truck, if it has stuff, they'll grab it and go, figure out if it has value later. But, if I had $200K worth of auto weapons in the back of MY truck and I stop to eat, I'm parking where EVERYBODY can see it, including me, while I'm in the restaurant.
Something does smell a bit like 3 day old fish here.

That's essentially a mall/shopping area outside Phiiy. Around Christmas they have a ton of stolen vehicles, smash and grabs, etc. Nonetheless, who would leave such cargo unattended? :ponder:

I don't know...one could potentially have a transferable M60 ($46k), a couple of transferable Colt M16's ( $15k each)...

A quick visit to sturmgewehr.com reveals many $15k and higher legal full autos...simple math means only a dozen rifles or so at that rate gets you close to $200,000.

If someone who is able to possess that much valuable hardware is that stupid, he deserves the financial loss. Unfortunately, there will be some thug on the receiving end of the deal. I am wondering if this is all a ruse to get the weapons off his class III books and still "have" them. Maybe he is merely a citizen (legally purchased the rifles through a class III dealer) and is facing an impending divorce and does not want to lose his toys...or a victim of the economy getting ready to file bankruptcy and wants to "protect" some of his unprotectable assets.

We will not know the truth unless, unfortunately, they were REALLY stolen, used in a crime, and recovered as a part of the investigation into the crime.

The sad thing is that if any of the above are true, there are that many fewer transferable weapons available now and the value of those left will increase for those of us who want to buy them. On the bright side, those of us that already own them just saw an increase in value for those already owned.

See? A silver lining!

Something does not sound right. They say approximately 24 weapons at a value of $200K? That's like $8400 a gun. I have been to many gun shows, and have not seen a whole lot of $15K weapons for sale, a matter of fact, have never seen a $15K weapon at any of the gun shows I have been to.

Having seen the involved dealer's table, he has/had some really nice, expensive weapons.

Thanks,
