Morels

Post by Llagoud » 21 Apr 2009, 04:36

Here they come......

Image

We desperately need more moisture here.....we'll hit the usual islands in Coon Rapids and a couple other spots too.....about 2-3 weeks we should be seeing them....if we get some long soaking rains.
Last year was just enough to make a couple meals, hopefuly we'll do better this year.

As always, the worst case scenario is a day in the woods with friends, stogies and beer.

:D

Damn straight MO, wipe of the dirt and enjoy. That's the best.
Hell, maybe just biting off the caps while they're still in the ground, like the deer do, is bestest. ;)

Let me know when you head out on a hunt. If you want another guy to harvest with, that is.

Oh, and we can shoot in Rat Bastard's back yard. After a near skunking last year (too dry) even though he's on prime land for it in Cannon Falls, we loaded up the picnic table with guns and spent the afternoon shooting. :D

I am in. I love the outdoors, anyway you take it. Can't do it this weekend, family in town. But in two or three weekends should work fine.

Around Mother's Day is usually when they start showing up here, then we've got three, maybe four weeks to hunt.

Last year Rochester/LaCrosse area was raking them in.

I wonder if the small amount of meals has anything to do with the "morel" decline that's going on in this country. :p

I can almost hear the little feckers now.
They make a sound that's a cross between little mice feets on leaves and evil clown laughter.

We're getting the moisure right now, a good multi-day soaking.....next some warm days, and a few beers.....

Mushrooms thrive in today's (political) climate - kept in the dark and with heaps of BS.

Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative,
and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want
people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

Mushroom rain is happening here right now! It's been raining off and on since yesterday. Now if the wind will stay calm we might have a good year.

I'm going to grab my 'shroomin stick and wander around in the woods at Dad's on Sunday.

No reported sightings this far north yet, but a couple in his area.

Crap. Yesterday while I was working on a project to cross our part numbers on a product line of hundreds of items with two of our affiliates numbers, two different manufacturers numbers and an importers numbers, Phil was out on an island south of the metro gathering morels.

He called to shake the bag and let me listen to them scream.

He reported that the finds are spotty, some areas dry with few mushies, while a hundred yards away a nice damp patch of 40 or more.....though somewhat smallish.

At 5 pm he had 70 and I'm sure he kept going.

After our range trip today my son and I walked around the woods for about an hour and only found 2.
They were still tastey. :)
